Investment in Transport - Campaign for a better deal for the North of England

Infrastructure investment from the Conservative Government has meant new opportunities for investment in transport. Local conservatives including Group leader Cllr Simon Cooke have been campaigning for a better deal for The North of England and Bradford:

  • Calling for a new trans-pennine motorway north of Leeds and Bradford including a link to Leeds-Bradford International Airport

  • Getting unanimous commitment to a high speed rail stop in Bradford and lobbying hard for the Northern Powerhouse Rail proposals

  • Backing calls for a West Yorkshire-wide improvement in bus services and opposing yet another Leeds-centred public transport system

“Labour leaders on West Yorkshire Combined Authority think investment in new transport ideas and technology is just a ‘gimmick’”; says Cllr Simon Cooke, “but local Conservatives want the region’s transport plans to deliver for local people and businesses by embracing and championing new ideas and new technology.”
